long before the entry of foreign smartphone makers of India , Indian smart phone makers
ruled the Mid range and low end price segments, obviously Samsung and apple ruled the flagship
markets. Indian smartphone manufacturers didn't even made their own smartphones. they bought smartphones from Chinese vendors and they re brand the devices and sold it in India. The actual device had to pass through several phases of dealers and distributors so they are actually overpriced for what they offer. But buyers have no other option. people didn't cared about the internal specs . buyers in India loved the bigger displays of the Indian offerings.there is no competition in this price segments. Samsung devices in the price segment are very tiny and don't boast such high megapixel cameras. so the Indian manufacturer's ruled the low end and mid range segment until the entry of xiaomi.

In the year 2013, Xiaomi launched its Xiaomi Mi3 in India. Mi 3 launched with snapdragon 800 processor which at the time was used only in flagship devices such as LG G2, Sony Xperia 1 and Google Nexus. Google Nexus 5 was priced around 30000 and other snapdragon 800devices are priced over 35000+. It created a lot of buzz in Smartphone industry in India. I remember the day
i saw the news on my Crappy Micromax device and wondered how they could launch for such a low price of Rs.14,999.
yes, the Mi 3 was launched for just Rs.14,999. The Mi 3 paved the extraordinary entry for the Xiaomi into Indian soil. after that they are ruling the smartphone industry in India. Xiaomi offered powerful smartphones in the Low end and mid-range series. which totally outshined the Indian Makers. Indians cant offer such powerful devices in those price point. but still Indian makers had some presence in India due to Xiaomi's Online only sale policy. but days moved on and Xiaomi extended its presence in offline stores too. who made the Indian manufacturers to disappear from the market.
Still Indian makers like Micromax, lava and karbonn had little presence in mobile phone industry but very very tiny in the smartphone industry. they sell smartphones and basic phones under Rs.4999 where Xiaomi and any other popular manufacturer dont have devices in. As of now the biggest Indian Smartphone maker Micromax have a market share less than 5% in India.
