Realme X2 Pro user review after using over four months of extensive usage

I bought my Realme X2 Pro on december 26 of 2019. so its over a four months of usage and i used it extensively. In these period i had a love hate experience with the Realme X2 Pro. I was a Asus zenfone 5Z before and it ran on a Snapdragon 845 chipset and the Realme X2 Pro rund on a snapdragon 855 + chipset. To be honest you wont see a lot of improvements in the speed untill you turn on the 90hz refresh rate.

The 6.5 inch Super AMOLED display used in the Realme X2 Pro was a very good panel and the sun light legiblity is super good even on the peak outside times. Even after four months of usage the Corning Gorilla glass 5 does its job and there is zero visual scratches on the front and the back.
Realme X2 Pro feels great in hand, but compared to my Asus 5Z the Realme X2 Pro is more hefty and you could feel the weight. yeah the Realme X2 Pro is almost 200 grams because of the 4000 mAh battery and there is two 2000mAh batteries combined to form the 4000 mAh so the weight is very evenly distributed and you'll get used used it quickly unless you have a lighter secondary phone or something.

Speaking of the battery, the 4000 mAh battery outlasts so well, to give an idea let me describe my usage pattern. 4G 20% of the time, wifi remaining 80% of the time, always peak brightness, always 90 Hz and a lot of gaming. even for such activities Realme X2 Pro could provide me a screen on time of 6.30 hrs to near 7 hrs when my Asus 5Z could barely give 3 to 3.5 hrs screen on time for my usage. And in the quarantine time, i dont need better. And the 50W Super VOOC charger is just mind blowing. even the company claims 100% charge in 35 mins. mine never needed 35 mins, it gets 100% in max 32 to 33 mins. so battery life is never been a issue to me.

The camera quality is stellar, 64 MP primary camera does its job and captures super detailed images, all of my friends are just WOWed to see how much details that thing can capture. Pro mode is a real pro and the ultra wide camera is much handy for my usage. i use Telephoto lens very rarely but i could say its great too. The images taken on the 16 MP selfie cameras are good too, but the problem is 40% it produced shaky pics. i often doubt the Gyro-EIS on the front work or not. other than that the cameras in Realme X2 Pro are super good.
Video Recording can be cranked upto 4K 60 FPS and the video quality is great. But you cant use the Ultra wide sensor while recording 4K but you can use it when recoding with 1080p or 720p. Slow motion video recording is also available with three speeds 240 fps, 480 fps and 960 fps. You cant record for over three seconds with the 960 fps.
The Finger print scanner is seriously snappy and i'd say it is batter than the rear mounted finger print scanner of Asus 5Z. i have a sweaty hand and even though the finger print recogonized 99% of time atleast. Call Quality and Network quality is best of i have ever used. Microphones are really good at Noise cancelling. The Stereo speaker is sooo amazing. Haptic Motor used in Realme X2 pro is of really good quality. The vibrations aren't too strong or weak , its perfectly satisfying.

If you are a gamer, you'll definitele enjoy "Game space" it offers so many tools to enhance better gameplay. Some of the features available on Game space are Photorealistic Enhancement- which improves the graphics quality of games like pubg and its stunning, Smart Dual channel Network, Brightness lock - which disables auto brightness adjustments while gaming and automatically adjust display resolution.

So far everything feels smooth right, yes the hardwares are super good but not the software, every time i look at the UI it feels like something slaps on my face. My Realme X2 Pro currently running on Realme UI. Realme when announcing Realme UI they claimed it to be "Near Stock UI", I dont know how could they make such bold claims. Trust me Realme UI is no where close to Stock Experience. Yes it is better that more cartoonish Color OS but still Realme UI feels super heavy.  And Realme's android Update is very slower compared to some others. Like my one generation old Asus 5Z got Android 10 update months before Realme. And yeah Realme assured for Android 11 update, but i think that'll hit my device when everyone is getting Android 12 update.

Realme's inability to provide faster software updates for its flagships in time makes me worry about my future with the device. Ok, you might ask if you hate the stock ROM you should move to a custom ROM and it seems like Realme dont want you to do that. its been months since the launch of the device and the Realme isn't showing any signs of releasing kernel source and source code which is essential for developing custom ROMs. every major smartphone manufacturers release source codes for the developer community, but realme keeps ignoring those. so the Realme X2 Pro forums on XDA are pretty blank. i would be happily give 10/10 for the hardware and there is no question for that but i would give 2/10 max for the software team and their shitty policy. and i'm determined that i would never ever buy a Realme device until they change their policy and supports custom ROM community. Clearly Realme's software team isnt capable of providing customer's need. if you are so incapable of to do so , atleast let us do it for ourself

VERDICT:

"An extraordinary hardware spoiled by underwhelming software"
